Milan, 6 April 2025 – During Milan Design Week, internationally acclaimed design and architecture practice AB Concept debuted its first collaboration with legendary Japanese tableware brand Noritake Design Collection. AB Concept’s Founders, Ed Ng and Terence Ngan, designed the Bangle Collection, a sculptural and highly crafted tableware series inspired by contemporary fashion and natural textures. This transformative new direction for the Noritake Design Collection was celebrated at Alcova in Villa Borsani, with the exhibition space art-directed by British creative Faye Toogood.

Founded in 1904, the Noritake Design Collection has long been revered for its masterful craftsmanship in fine porcelain. Under Yuichiro Hori, Noritake's Chief Creative Director, the Design Collection represents a bold new chapter, uniting globally renowned designers such as Yabu Pushelberg, Marc Newson, Ed Ng & Terence Ngan, along with a reimagined set inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel archives. The collections embody a seamless convergence of heritage and modern creativity, bringing forth tableware as sculptural display pieces in everyday life.

The Bangle Collection by Ed Ng and Terence Ngan introduces a refined perspective on tableware, drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of jewellery. Much like bangles - cherished as statement accessories - the collection reflects an intricate interplay of form and function. Crafted from high-quality porcelain, these pieces elevate the everyday dining experience while standing as visually striking objects in their own right.

‘‘As designers deeply engaged in the hospitality and fine dining world, we recognise how ceramic tableware is displayed with reverence in Japanese omakase settings, blending seamlessly into the restaurant’s overall aesthetic. We wanted to create a collection that is not only beautiful for dining but also worthy of display’, said Ed Ng, Co-Founder of AB Concept.

The Ocean Bangle Series, a highlight of the collection, takes inspiration from the mesmerising textures of the sea - sea urchins, clamshells and seashells - translated into delicate ceramic bowls and plates. Designed to evoke the elegance of stacked bangles, the series engages the senses, encouraging a tactile connection with the vessel that carries the food. Available in three oceanic patterns and three sophisticated colourways - pure white, grey and blue-grey- each set features four versatile sizes (25cm, 20cm, 15cm and 10cm).

As Noritake Design Collection embarks on this innovative journey, AB Concept’s Bangle series stands as a testament to the evolving relationship between design, craftsmanship and storytelling.

About Noritake Design Collection:
Noritake's storied legacy traces its earliest international roots back to 1876, when its founders, the Morimura brothers, set up a general store in New York City, and a trading company in Tokyo. Driven by a vision to enrich Japan through overseas trade, they laid the foundation for what would become one of the world’s leading names in fine porcelain. This early venture in New York marked the beginning of a cross-cultural exchange that would profoundly influence Noritake’s development and global reach. As the company evolved, its connection to New York remained a point of pride, symbolizing their commitment to innovation and craftsmanship that bridges traditions from both East and West, so that for 120 years now Noritake has created the finest, most desirable tableware and exported it all over the world. An undisputed leader in the design, sustainability and state-of-the-art technology of fine tableware, Noritake, headquartered in Nagoya, Japan, is used by the best hotels, restaurants, and airlines worldwide, and has become a global icon of luxury hospitality. Each exquisite piece bears the Noritake stamp and the collection name as Noritake’s artistic legacy captures the very essence of design, superb craftsmanship, and timeless appeal.
